Support Mozilla Developer Network Badges

Promote mdn Spread some Developer Love

Proper documentation and great reference examples are imperatives in webdev, without either, a reference source can (usually is) lacking and in the process, slowing down your own personal growth and development. The Mozilla Developer Network (aka mdn), has been offering up amazing and comprehensive resources for all Open Web developers in such a manner for quite awhile. mdn recently launched a promotional campaign, not just to draw attention to themselves (although, its quite a nice bonus), but moreso to bring awareness to developers that they should require/demand similar resources always and that such resources already do exist.

Promote mdn is offering up four different badge designs, with three design color options, as well as 4 separate document types for better and more concrete specification.

This blog post is simply to draw awareness of the promotion, I actually do not care for the standard way of promoting badges/widgets and should probably blog about that soon. Regardless, I’ve placed my badge selections below for all to see. The badge type (css, html, JavaScript and Toolbox) correlates to that section of in my personal Development Reference Library; I also made a Promote mdn badge that I intend to drop on pages in my Development Reference Library that do not fall under the given categories (it’s also the header image of this post). Check them out yo!.

Add Humans.txt to Your Site for Increased Findability

Add Humans.TXT to your site and flaunt your practices for the humanoid searcher. Humans.TXT is a simple text file that you add to the your root file, which is filled with information about the people behind the site.

Humans.TXT is an initative to inform users about the people behind a website; typically it contains information about all the different people who have contributed to the development process of a site. So mine is sparce and only contains information about me; lame, but it’s a start. More importantly, I did it to help spread the word and also add it into Front-End workflows.

Humans.TXT uses a text file because its simple and easy and not intrusive with your code. Using Humans.TXT you can prove your authorship (not your property) very fast and in an accessible way.

Make sure that your file is utf-8 capable and lowercase; You can also add in thank you’s as well as information behind your site.

SFO crunch

posted by exxonvaldez

The 10pm to 11pm outbound crunch at San Francisco International Airport on Friday, July 17th, 2009. Departures on Runways 1L/1R as seen from Millbrae.

Better large.

Edit: credit to papa_sierra for letting me know there were some good vantage points in Millbrae.

Qantas Airways Limited flight 74 (Boeing 747-400) can be seen crossing midfield left to right and then departing on 27 28 for Sydney (YSSY).

Before the crunch, there’s about 20 minutes where the airport almost goes silent. I also noticed that after 10pm only one departure happens at a time, whereas side by side takeoffs were occuring prior to that. I assume that’s for noise control reasons.

Stack of 31 exposures. And to the Millbrae residents who saw me shooting on the sidewalk near your houses, sorry if I bothered you.

[ Edit: This image appears in the September 2009 issue of San Francisco magazine in the "click" feature. Thanks, San Francisco magazine! ]
