Open Source-Appropriate Technology refers to "appropriate technology" aka tech that is designed with special consideration given to the environmental, ethical, cultural, social, political, and economic aspects of the community it is intended for.

osat is created in the same manners as FOSS and Open Source code: that is, developed in the open and licensed in such a way that permits reuse of their designs, as well as modifications, and free redistribution.
